◎ Background/History: Character page on the wiki
◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense?
Quatre has something he refers to as the "heart of space" which appears to be a limited form of empathic ability. He seems to be able to sense things others are feeling -- such as when Heero blows himself up, or knowing that Trowa is piloting a shuttle when he'd otherwise have no way of having that information.

As for hacking, well, he's decent with computers, as all the pilots kind of need to be by necessity, but he's no Heero Yuy. So let's call him just a baby hacker.

◎ Personality:
Quatre Winner, at least as most people know him these days, is a kindhearted, sensitive young man. But even the kindhearted can't always escape the darker and dangerous parts of the world -- especially during times of war. As a Gundam pilot, Quatre is often at war not only with the forces of OZ or White Fang, but also with himself. In a perfect world, Quatre would like to believe in the ideals of pacifism. But he's enough of a realist to understand that the road to peace will not always be a peaceful one in and of itself.

This inner conflict shows itself in his battles in his Gundam where he quite often apologizes to the men he finds himself having to destroy. At other times, he offers his foes the chance to surrender so that their lives do not have to be forfeit. There is a definite sadness about him in these moments, to realize that these lives must be lost at his hands in furtherance of the ultimate goal of peace. But at the same time, he is resolute in his purpose and in his missions. Quatre regrets what he finds himself having to do, but he also believes in it fully and doesn't waver from his struggle to achieve and protect peace.

Quatre is a firm believer in cooperation and teamwork. He "surrendered" to Trowa and Heavyarms even after he had the other pilot surrounded and at a disadvantage. When meeting the other pilots he also showed an inclination to want to work together, and a belief that they all shared the same goal -- despite the original Operation Meteor and what it intended. In this, his intuition turns out to be correct, as all the pilots eschewed the original Operation Meteor which involved dropping colonies to Earth to cause mass casualties, and they instead fought against Oz's forces specifically. More than just wanting to work together, Quatre develops a distinct fondness and friendship towards his fellow pilots. Trowa in particular he connects with during their first meeting, but he is close to the others as well, not bothering to hide his happiness, for example, when Duo shows up unexpectedly. He soon considers them friends and very important people in his life.

Later, this inclination towards cooperation lands Quatre in the position of being something of a tactical leader/coordinator for the pilots when they are working as a team. This starts early on, when he convinces Duo that they need to fight and be seen fighting so the other three pilots will realize their message and join them in returning to space. His gambit works, even if Quatre attempts to self destruct to cover the other pilots' escape in the process, until his Gundam protects him and Quatre flees to space. After the war, when his attention is beginning to turn towards running his family's company and becoming somewhat involved in the political situation on the colonies, it will serve him well once again. Quatre genuinely likes people and wants to believe the best of them, even if he realizes that not all people have good intentions.

Quatre's sense of humor is a bit understated, though he has as much trouble hiding his amusement as he does most other emotions. He's often cheerful and friendly -- quick to smile and to laugh. He is also often polite to a fault, having been raised in a rather wealthy and prestigious family. He seems at home both in high class settings and mingling with people in general.

In his family life, Quatre has had something of a stormy relationship with his father for several reasons over the years. The Winner family is one of the wealthiest and most influential families in the colonies. Quatre grew up rather sheltered and wanted for very little. Even so, there was a deep bitterness and anger in him as a younger teen man. He had almost no real sense of self worth. Due to problems with long term life in space, his family had children created in test tubes. The youngest of 30 (all 29 others girls), he felt as though he had been created as a convenience to his family, and that he could very easily be replaced. (The truth of the matter is, Quatre was born naturally, but his father never told him this, possibly because Quatre's mother died during childbirth).

After an encounter with the Maguanacs, however, Quatre learns a rather stark lesson in valuing himself and his life. He releases the anger and bitterness and chooses to do the best that he can, to work towards helping people. In this encounter he not only discovers himself and the person that he wants to be, he also forms a lasting bond with the Maguanac corps.

Even after he overcomes many of his self-worth issues, however, this still does not solve his discord with his father. Quatre loves his father, but he and the elder Winner do not see eye to on many issues. Quatre's father does not condone Quatre being a Gundam pilot. The elder Mr. Winner is a total pacifist, while Quatre's views differ. The younger Winner believes in peace and desperately wants to achieve it and see it protected, but he's practical enough to know that some things must be fought for and defended through great sacrifice. There is a stubborn streak in Quatre that becomes very apparent in his unwillingness to give up on his goals or his dreams for peace despite the obstacles that wind up in his path -- including his conflict with his father.

Despite his readiness to fight for what is necessary in pursuit of his mission and of peace, Quatre places a very high value on human life in general. In the side story Blind Target, he's shown greatly angered that an attack on him took the lives of other people. At other times, he has drawn rather involved scoldings from the Maguanacs for going off on a mission and leaving them behind so as not to put them at risk. Later still he intervenes in a battle between mobile dolls and mobile suits that has drawn to close to a colony and put the people on that colony at risk -- including an amnesiac Trowa.

Part of the reason that Quatre feels so deeply for others may well come from the vaguely empathic ability that he displays at different times throughout the series. He refers to it as "heart of space" and it seems to let him feel in some ways what others are thinking -- especially strong emotions like pain and despair, such as in the instance where Heero self destructs (...one of the instances when Heero self destructs). Very little of it is ever explained, and Quatre doesn't appear to give it much thought, considering it as something normal for him.

Quatre is certainly not without faults and weaknesses. He grew up rather sheltered, and this does affect his view on things at times. His emotions often drive his actions, though he seldom gets visibly angry. When he does, it's a quiet anger rather than any sort of noticeable temper. However, his emotions and persistent self doubts sometimes inform his actions. This is very much plain in the wake of his father's death. Though the Zero-System interface recently installed in his Gundam Sandrock certainly amplifies the problem, this is a peek into Quatre's emotional state. He lashes out, destroying a derelict civilian colony, and likely would have done more damage were it not for Trowa intervening. Quatre carries the guilt for his actions in this as a very heavy burden, saying that he knows he can't expect to be forgiven for what he's done, but that he'll do everything he can through his life to try to atone for it regardless.

Good or bad, Quatre's emotions aren't something that he keeps secret. His feelings are out there for everyone to see whether it's joy or tears.

Overall though, Quatre is a kind, caring person who is stronger and more resolute than many may think when first meeting him. What may appear to be a naivete is more a determined hopefulness to not give up on his dreams of achieving peace. He values his friends dearly and would do anything for them. He believes in his cause and will give anything he can to see it through, because he truly believes it will help so many innocent people in the long run.

◎ Powers/Abilities:
Quatre possesses something of an empathic ability that he refers to as the "heart of space" or "space heart." It gives him a deeper understanding of the emotions of others, something he feels viscerally at times. It also helps to inform his character judgments of people he meets.

Beyond this, Quatre is a highly trained Gundam pilot. Though he may not be quite the physical fighter that several of his fellow Gundam pilots are, he is certainly not quite so defenseless as he looks. He can hold his own -- and more than hold his own when he's piloting his Gundam. Beyond this, Quatre has a talent for tactical maneuvers and strategies on the battlefield and understanding combat as well as the motivations behind it. This also translates into an understanding of political situations. Quatre is quite a talker when he needs to be.

Though it's not something he's had a lot of time to devote to in the past few years, music has a special place in Quatre's heart. He's a very capable musician -- especially on the violin and the piano, often turning to music to help calm him down or to work out his thoughts.

◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
1. His Gundam, Sandrock! Though with the size restriction and need to earn it back as discussed on the FAQ post.
2. His violin
3. His goggles -- they're symbolic, okay?

CEREALIA-Specific

◎ Element:
Heart! Go planet! For Quatre, earth.

◎ Sense: Sound. Quatre is something of a musician, and music is important to him. Beyond that, while Quatre may be a Gundam pilot and no stranger to the battlefield, if he has the option he'll offer diplomacy. He's a talker and a listener, and words are important in addition to actions. He's a people person and a good deal of that is being able to listen.

◎ Seven Character Traits:
